What in the world is this thing?? If you are a newbie its essentially a one way valve for power...typical wind and solar applications include solar e.g. back flow of power discharging the batteries when the sun goes down.
Also often used in DIY wind generator designs where a donor motor is used as a generator. Using the diode prevents the battery from powering the motor. There are many other uses but these are the 2 most frequent I know of for wind and solar.....They are also used in installation of watts view power meters
This item is ideal for use with wind turbines such as those constructed using with Ametek and heavy treadmill motors. This diode keeps the battery from discharging when the wind is not blowing or the sun is not shining and restricts the flow of current to the direction of the battery. This is not optional in wind turbine applications as without a diode the motor will spin using the power from the battery banks until they are discharged.Rapid turning of the blades when the motor is driven by the battery bank can cause the generator to fail burning up the motor and destroying expensive blades . This 600volt 40 amp rating is several times the output of the motors used with wind turbines. This provides a measure of comfort and safety to guard against overheating and failure of the diode.
